ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING held at CARMARTHEN GC on Thursday 22/11/2018

  1. Minutes of 2017 AGM: Held at Carmarthen Golf Club on 30th November 2017 were proposed by J Curry and seconded by P Ward, the minutes being taken as read. This was unanimously approved by the members present. There were no matters arising.

  1. Chairman’s report. Having completed his second and final year in office Robert Walters reported on the successes of DGU players throughout the year. Congratulations to the following juniors who all played for Wales in 2018 – Harrison Duckett of Trefloyne, Aled Greville of Ashburnham, Abe Forsyth of Haverfordwest, Bryn Thomas of Cilgwyn and Jamie Dean who captained Wales at U15 level. Luke Harries reached the semi-final of the Wales match play championship and his brother Jack who reached the quarter finals. Luke also came second in the Royal St David’s Gold Cross. Congratulation to Huw Rees and Nick Ingram from Carmarthen who came third in the Welsh Seniors Greensomes championship at Denbigh.

The DGU County champion for 2018 is Rhys Morgan from Ashburnham and Alan Jones of South Pembs the over 35 champion.

In the Dyfed League congratulations to the league winners namely;

Div 4-Rosemarket GC, Div 3 Derllys Court, Div 2 – Machynys and

Div 1 winners Milford Haven.

The Jeff Harries Knock Out bowl was won by Tenby GC

Finally the Super 6 championship was also won by Tenby GC.

To date, I am pleased to announce that the following players have been selected for coaching by Wales Golf during the coming months, namely Luke Harries, Aled Greville, Jamie Dean, Abe Forsyth and

Joss Lerwill.

  1. President’s report: John Evans stated it had been a privilege and an honour to serve as President in his first year in office. He thanked the Chairman, Secretary, treasurer, match/fixture Secretary, Media officer, Junior Organizer and team captains. He also thanked Carmarthen GC for hosting the Annual dinner and AGM and Derllys Court GC for hosting Officers meetings.

  1. Treasurer’s report; Brian Newcombe presented a very detailed summary of the income and expenditure account for 2018 resulting in a deficit of £1202. Annual subscriptions were down by £625as a result of a drop of 4.3% in full membership but an increase of 6.2% in Junior membership. Extra matches had also been played by some of the County teams but fewer championships had been held in 2018. Surplus income of £17,235 remains in the treasurer’s account. The report was unanimously accepted by all delegates.

  1. Junior report; Junior organizer, Henry Malloy gave a detailed account of the individual and team competitions held throughout the year. He congratulated Carmarthen GC on winning the Junior club championship and qualifying to represent Wales in a Home International tournament in Portugal in January 2019 and Abe Forsyth (Haverfordwest)who qualified for the Telegraph Junior Championship also in Portugal. In team competitions one match was won, one halved and four lost. Dion Regan from Cilgwyn won the British Wee Wonders Boys 9 – 10 years. The DGU stableford champion is Tomos Carlson of Milford, under 13 champion Jack Jenkins of Milford and Junior net champion Declan Morgan of Ashburnham. Dyfed champion is Bryn Thomas of Cilgwyn and Order of Merit champion Iestyn McAvoy of Glynhir/Carmarthen. He thanked Rhys Harry the Junior County coach for his services. He also mentioned the significant number of players who have been identified and included in the GUW Winter coaching squads. He was congratulated on organizing the second Junior dinner recently held at Cardigan GC which was very well attended. The Junior AGM will be held on 16th January at Carmarthen GC.

  1. County team report; Henry Malloy captained the team in the absence of Ian Marks owing to illness. The team lost matches against Brecon and Radnor and Glamorgan and came 4th in the Welsh Inter Counties final at Borth. As there has been no response to the advertisement for a new Captain it was agreed to advertise for a County Manager.

  1. Senior County team; Huw Dixon gave a detailed account of the six matches played winning four and losing two. A fifth place in the Welsh Inter Counties was an improvement on the previous year reported. He encouraged clubs to forward names of Senior players with low handicaps to boost team numbers.

  1. The motion proposed by the officers of the Union to increase the subscription rate from £4 to £5 and the Junior male from £1 to £2 was approved by 35 votes with 5 against.

  1. The motion proposed by Aberystwyth that away players pay £12 each at away league matches, which would include a two course meal, was defeated by 32 votes to 2.

  1. The motion proposed by Trefloyne to raise the handicap limit in League matches from 15 to 18 and remove the 6 shot allowance was defeated by 32 votes to 2.

  1. The motion proposed by South Pembs to reduce the number of pairings from 8 to 7 in Division Two matches was defeated by 18 votes to 10.

  1. Election of officers; David Evans(Cwmrhydneuadd) was unanimously elected as Chairman for his first year. Mark Creamer (Cilgwyn) was elected as Vice Chairman for his first year. John Evans (Penrhos) was duly elected as President for a second year and David Lindquist(Newport Links) was elected as Vice President for a second year. Jeff Harries(Secretary),Brian Newcombe(Treasurer) Elaine Rees(Match/Competition secretary), David Blackmore(media/press officer), Henry Malloy(Junior organizer) and Seniors Captain Huw Dixon (Ashburnham) were all unanimously re-elected. The post of County Team Manager is to be advertised on the DGU website.

  1. The President and Chairman made the draw for the first round of the Jeff Harries Knock Out Bowl Competition 2018. First team drawn plays at home.
