ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING held at CARMARTHEN GC on Thursday 24/11/2016

  1. Minutes of 2015 AGM: Held at Carmarthen Golf Club on 26th November 2015 were proposed by R Brice and seconded by D Harry, the minutes being taken as read. This was unanimously approved by the members present. There were no matters arising.

  1. Chairman’s report: Martin Lane stated it had been a privilege to serve as chairman in his second year and had enjoyed the experience of serving the DGU over four years He stated it was a challenging time for all clubs with diminishing membership. However, there were 22 more adult male members and 35 fewer junior members in Dyfed’s golf clubs from the previous year. He thanked the officers J Harries and E Rees for their sterling work and they were suitably applauded. He also thanked the President Michael Williams, Dafydd Latham the treasurer, David Blackmore the Press/Media officer, Henry Malloy Junior Organizer and Huw Dixon (Seniors Captain)for their support The services of the retiring County Captain John Roberts was applauded.

  1. President’s report: Michael Williams reported in detail on the successes of DGU players throughout the year. In team events he congratulated Trefloyne GC on reaching the semi-final of the GUW Victory Shield, Milford Haven on reaching the semi-final of the Team Championships and Carmarthen GC on winning the GUW PING MIXED championship. He highlighted the representation of a County player in the Welsh Home International team at Nair n GC namely Zach Galliford(Borth and Ynyslas) who earlier had won the Welsh Amateur Championship at Southerndown, the first player in Dyfed since 1985 when C Rees of Ashburnham last won. Also the success of Luke Harris(Tenby/South Pembs), Billy Truman(Trefloyne) and Aled Greville(Ashburnham) who represented Wales at the Boys Home International at Ballyliffin. He thanked Carmarthen GC for hosting all the meetings during the year and all the clubs that hosted DGU events. He congratulated the league winners namely; Div 1-Carmarthen, Div 2 Ashburnham, Div 3 Haverfordwest, Div 4 – Cilgwyn. Super 6 champions – Ashburnham – Jeff Harries Bowl KO winners – Glynhir B. He also stated that the future was bright with excellent talent within Dyfed with numerous players having been chosen for coaching in the GUW squads.

  1. Treasurer’s report; In his report Dafydd Latham presented a very detailed summary of the income and expenditure account for 2016 resulting in a surplus of £781. Junior sponsorship of £400 from the NFU was much appreciated. The report was unanimously accepted by all delegates.

  1. Junior report; Junior organizer, Henry Malloy gave a detailed account of the individual and team competitions held throughout the year. He urged all clubs to make a special effort to enter juniors in County competitions. He congratulated Milford Haven on winning the Junior club championship. He thanked Rhys Harry the Junior County coach for his services. He also mentioned the significant number of players who have been identified and included in the GUW Winter coaching squads. He was congratulated on organizing the first Junior dinner recently held at Cardigan GC.

  1. Jeff Harries read out the Seniors report written by Captain Huw Dixon. The team won four and lost one match. The highlight being the first ever win against Glamorgan Seniors at Pennard. The players were thanked for their services and the captain encouraged all players interested in representing Dyfed to get in touch with him.

  1. It was unanimously approved that changes to league fixtures can be agreed between clubs before the last day of February in each year. Subsequent changes must be made in writing to Elaine Rees by both clubs. Fixtures will be placed on the DGU website.

  1. The amended DGU Constitution was unanimously approved on the proposal of the Chairman and seconded by Steve Brown.

  1. The motion by Haverfordwest GC to reduce the pairings in Div 1 and 2 from 9 to 7 pairs was defeated by 17 votes to 10 resulting in no change from previous years.

  1. The motion by Garnant Park that clubs in Div 1 and 2 should play to the same rules as Div 3 and 4 was not discussed as Item 11 had already been approved, A further motion that clubs in Div 3 and 4 should play to the same rules as Div 1 and 2 was discussed resulting in two votes in favour, two abstentions and the rest agains. A third motion by Garnant Park that the management Committee look into ways of resolving the non-fulfilment of fixtures was not discussed as clubs had already voted under item 9.

  1. Election of officers; Robert Walters(Glyn Abbey) was unanimously elected as chairman for the coming two year. Dai Evans (Cwmrhydneuadd) was appointed as Vice Chairman. Michael Williams (South Pembs) will commence his second year as President. John Evans(Penrhos) will commence his second year as Vice President. Jeff Harries(Secretary), Elaine Rees(Match/Competition secretary) ,Dafydd Latham(Treasurer) , David Blackmore(media/press officer) and Henry Malloy(Junior organizer) were all re-elected. Rhys Harry(Junior Coach) will continue his second year of a three year contract.

  1. Ian Marks(Carmarthen) was duly elected as the new County Captain on the retirement of John Roberts (Milford Haven) and outlined his plans for the coming season. Seniors Captain Huw Dixon (Ashburnham) was unanimously re-elected.

  1. The President and Chairman made the draw for the first round of the Jeff Harries Knock Out Bowl Competition 2017. First team drawn plays at home. First round to be played by 14th May.
