Congratulations to the Dyfed Men’s Team that finished in the Bronze Medal spot at the Intercounties Championships today at Borth. Due to 14 players playing in club finals weekends or being unavailable for personal reasons, we fielded a mixture of experience and youth and even I had to dust my clubs and step up to the plate. Morning scores that counted were:
Elis Lewis 71
Shaun Dyson 74
James Pegg 75
Iestyn McAvoy 73
Henry Malloy 82.
These scores left us in 3rd position with 3 other counties within 3 shots of us.
Elis Lewis 72
Shaun Dyson 73
James Pegg 73
Ian Marks 75
Iestyn McAvoy 76.
The afternoon scores ensured that we made up the deficit of 3 strokes that we were behind Flintshire to pip them by 1 stroke, however 2nd place was snatched from us by some fine Gwent scoring. Congratulations to Glamorgan County for being clear winners and playing some excellent golf under some tricky conditions.
I’d like to thank all of the team for playing a part in today’s Bronze medal performance and especially young Iestyn McAvoy for playing really well on his full county debut. We have another star in the making. Thanks to all players that have represented the county this season and making my captaincy a very enjoyable and rewarding experience. I’ve managed to blood many new players into the county set-up and give some more experienced players another crack at county golf. As results go, we have had a fairly successful season having played 5 matches, winning 3 of them and achieving today’s Bronze at the national championships.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in the annual Dyfed dinner next month.
